Making Money Uk

vicious vixen 1/20/11, 10:40:PM

@mike… Actually no I don’t… I HATE the state of today’s “Hip Hop” (with a few exceptions – VERY few). And I’m not going to argue with you about how demeaning rappers are when it comes to women (calling them hoes, etc) because they most certainly are EXTREMELY mysogynistic. My problem with Lacey’s comment was the fact that she stated these black ugly hoes were tarnishing DIDDY’S “image”… Really? That coon (diddy) HAS no positive image! Furthermore, why is the “black” in her comment so negative sounding? Because they don’t fit into the European blonde hair, blue eyed idea of beauty they’re ugly? C’mon Son!

IDAPT is pretty keen on universal charging, but with its latest model there’s a dash of earth-friendliness in there too. The IDAPT i1 Eco boasts compatibility with over 4,000 devices – assisted by the fact that there’s a regular USB output on there – and automatically shuts off when your gadgets are rejuiced.

Two devices can be recharged simultaneously, and using IDAPT’s interchangeable IDAPT Tips the i1 Eco can handle Apple gadgets as well. In the box are three standard Tips – a 30-pin Apple dock connector, miniUSB and microUSB – while input options include 12V from your car or 100V-240V AC for travelling.

IDAPT expects the i1 Eco to go on sale in Q2 2011, and be priced at around €20.

The dual charger can recharge mobile devices while at home or on the

go, via 100v to 240v wall sockets or the included car adapter, with minimal

impact on the environment.

Additionally, no chemical painting is used in manufacturing in order to

ease the process of future recycling.

Future-proof – compatible with 4000+ devices

are being introduced on a regular basis, making IDAPT future-proof. The

Every day it seems as if another person finds internet riches; the allure to make money online has called many to seek out various methods and techniques to turn their skills and hobbies into an online revenue machine.

Unfortunately, there are also people out there that are untrustworthy and will even go to the length to scam newcomers that seek out guidance to make money online. If you want to avoid these scams and get to the ground-floor into earning and online revenue read this article and you'll discover the fundamental methods that are proven to work.

♦ ♦ Method 1: Blogging ♦ ♦

There's a lot of debate amongst bloggers about whether making money through blogging is worthwhile and can return on the time invested to produce continuous content. Debates aside; there are many people that have turned their passion for writing into an online business.

Blogging is different than sharing your skills and knowledge to a group of people; if you offer great advice and insight you will find people that are willing to pay for it. Likewise, building traffic to your blog (through great content) will open up the possibility to sell advertising, earn money through ad platforms like Adsense, allow you to open an online store, offer consulting and even sell other peoples products as an affiliate.

The reason why most don't believe that blogging can be profitable is that they rarely stick through with it until it turns so. It takes many years for the average blogger to build up their blog to earn money online; if this is the route you choose, be sure you have the passion to stick with it for a very long time even if you see little reward in the beginning.

♦ ♦ Method 2: Article writing ♦ ♦

Articles are a great way to engage internet users and can also be used to earn a little money on the side (or even full time). Articles, such as this one, can be used to make money online in three fundamental ways:

- Write for paid article websites (or your own site)
- Write for clients or freelance websites
- Write and sell articles on article marketplaces

Each of these are more lucrative than the next and will give you a wide range of freedom. The key to successfully making money through your writing is to balance in quality, search engine optimization and article topic. Also, always remember to diversify your income streams - try each of these methods out to find which works best for you.

♦ ♦ Method 3: Sell your own items ♦ ♦

Every year it becomes easier for the average person to sell items online. Unlike when the web started where you needed your own website and people rarely trusted online commerce; today everything has changed due to large marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay leading the pack.

Here are some ways you can make money online selling your own articles:

- Start a website, install a shopping cart and take orders
- Sell new and used items on Ebay, Amazon or other marketplaces
- Sell directly to people through social media or email
- Sell your information or physical products through your blog
- Sell items through your affiliate links you place in your online content

There are even websites that will give you an online shop absolutely free or if you pay to take your online sales to the next level you can create your own online business from the ground up - if you have the passion and drive, of course.

♦ ♦ Method 4: Sell other people's items ♦ ♦

Affiliate marketing has been around for ages offline and online. Affiliate marketing is when you sell other people's stuff in exchange for a commission; it's relatively simple to understand and start but hard to master.

Using any of the techniques explained above coupled with affiliate marketing; you can set yourself up to earn a lot of money depending on what products you choose to promote. The best thing to remember when selling affiliate products is to first offer great content, share why you recommend it and only offer products or services that is relevant to your readers and followers.

Here are a few places where you can begin affiliate marketing:

- Clickbank.com
- CJ.com
- Amazon.com
- eBay.com

There are thousands of affiliate marketplaces and in-house systems that will allow you to begin making money selling a company's items; just be sure you do enough research to see if the product is in demand and whether the marketplace/business is reputable.

♦ ♦ Method 5: Sell your skills as services ♦ ♦

Finally, the easiest way to begin making money online is to simply offer your skills or services.

Websites all across the net will allow you to list your skills such as Freelancer, Elance, Guru and others; you'll have a lot of competition but there are always people looking for skills on demand.

Additionally, you could always offer your skills or services through your own website, blog or online profile. When you become known within a community as an authority on your particular skill or hobby - word gets passed around and eventually clients will come to you.

Never underestimate the quality of your skills; even if you don't feel you offer the best services, people still need the task to be completed and if you're the one that can do it; you've set yourself up to make money online.

Making Money With Website

If the Dalai Lama was watching the Super Bowl, he probably wasn't laughing at Groupon's ad. The spot featured actor Timothy Hutton, speaking in an ultra-serious tone, and making light of the Chinese occupation of Tibet, a situation many find morally contemptuous. "The people of Tibet are in trouble," he said. "Their very culture is in jeopardy ... but they still whip up an amazing fish curry. And since 200 of us bought at Groupon.com, we're getting $30 of Tibetan food for just $15 at Himalayan Restaurant in Chicago."

Funny? Some people didn't think so. A few minutes after the ad aired, a backlash quickly ignited on Twitter. Watch the clip above and tell us what you think: Was the ad in poor taste?

[Updated at 8:55 a.m.: Groupon responds on its website and offers to match donations to the Tibet Fund: "The gist of the concept is this: When groups of people act together to do something, it’s usually to help a cause. With Groupon, people act together to help themselves by getting great deals. So what if we did a parody of a celebrity-narrated, PSA-style commercial that you think is about some noble cause (such as “Save the Whales”), but then it’s revealed to actually be a passionate call to action to help yourself (as in “Save the Money”)?

“Since we grew out of a collective action and philanthropy site (ThePoint.com) and ended up selling coupons, we loved the idea of poking fun at ourselves by talking about discounts as a noble cause. So we bought the spots, hired mockumentary expert Christopher Guest to direct them, enlisted some celebrity faux-philanthropists, and plopped down three Groupon ads before, during, and after the biggest American football game in the world.

“You can view the already-aired commercials, as well as new ones as we release them, at SaveTheMoney.org. And if you’ve saved enough money for yourself and feel like saving something else, you can donate to mission-driven organizations that are doing great work for the causes featured in our PSA parodies. If you guys pony up, Groupon will contribute matching donations of up to $100,000 for three featured charities -- Rainforest Action Network, buildOn, and the Tibet Fund -- and Groupon credit of up to $100,000 for contributions made to Greenpeace.”]

A reader asks: My business is in an industry where sales people and software engineers are often recruited by competitors.  How can I protect my company from being raided?

Answer: Employers use what are called restrictive covenants to protect trade secrets and prevent employees from unfairly stealing clients and/or information.  Courts heavily scrutinize these covenants so it is imperative to have a seasoned attorney assist you with writing one that will be enforceable under the laws of the state where your company is located. (Just missing a few words can create tremendous grief for an employer.)

There are a variety of these available, but let’s look at the most common:

Non-disclosure agreeements: Non-disclosure agreements (“NDAs”) are one of the most effective and commonly used solutions to this problem.  An NDA protects information that is a trade secret – data that has economic value (actual or potential) due to its exclusivity and is something you’re making efforts to keep secret.

Taking trade secrets without the owner’s consent is called misappropriation and if an employee misappropriates a trade secret, a company has the right to recover:

  • Actual damages it suffers from the theft

  • Repayment of the money made by the employee (or his new employer) as a result of the trade secret theft

  • Injunctions requiring the return of the stolen property

  • Attorney’s fees

To ensure the full protection of an NDA, you’ll need to require the employee to sign a confidentiality agreement when they come on board that defines the scope of information your company is trying to protect.  This can be anything from a company’s secret sauce to pricing, lists and business processes.

Additionally, the NDA should contain a proprietary inventions assignment agreement (PIAA), which ensures that all work products created by the employee belong to the company and not to the employee – and the employee has no right to take them when he or she leaves the company.  This can include everything from software programs to customer lists to website designs to pricing.

Covenants not to compete – Better known as non-compete agreements, the enforceability of these varies dramatically from state to state.  In the states in which they are enforceable, like New York or Massachusetts, they can be very powerful tools.  In other states, like California, they are generally prohibited.

California specifically has a statute stating that restrictive covenants not to compete are presumed invalid unless specific circumstances apply.  For example, if the owner of a company sells their business, a non-compete may be enforceable against him or her in California.

For the states where these are enforceable, there are still some restrictions based on the duration of the agreement, geographical location and the breadth of activity prohibited.

Additionally, in many cases it doesn’t matter where the agreement was entered into or what the laws are there. If the employee moves to another state, either during or after employment, things can become muddled. So, it’s best to use non-competes with great caution. They may not be as effective as you initially think.

Non-solicitation – There are basically two kinds of non-solicitation agreements – non solicitation of employees and non-solicitation of clients.

Non-solicitation of employees is generally enforceable in most states, but a non-solicitation of clients may be considered an unfair restraint on trade.  The exception in those situations is if the non-solicitation agreement is necessary to protect trade secrets.

Non-solicitation agreements are generally less onerous then covenants not to compete and typically more enforceable.

In the dog days of summer 2009, a chill is descending on America. This alarming climatic phenomenon was last seen in the 1950s when a young senator waged war on the Soviet threat within the United States. Joe McCarthy, an idealistic politician, who for what may have been for all the right reasons, used methods to fight this "Red Enemy" that kindled so much fear in our land that neighbor spied on neighbor and our government kept files on its citizens for "un-American activities".

Over sixty years later, hysteria yet again permeates our country. The guardians of our government have turned from protecting it citizens to engaging in McCarthy like tactics to diminish, discredit or delete opposition. What an irony that a country that has achieved greatness primarily because of its vigorous adversarial process, now responds to critics by suppressing guaranteed right. Wars have been halted, minorities have been given Civil Rights and a monarchy was ousted because of the citizens' vigorous questioning and opposition of their government.

The McCarthy mantra of "un-American activities" has yet again been evoked to impugn the motives of Americans that are engaging law makers, demanding answers to concerns about the proposed Health Care legislation. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and her entourage, aided by liberal media outlets, have wrapped this revolutionary bill in the cloak of humanitarianism. Rude perhaps and sometime unruly town hall participants and protesters shout out in anger against the bill citing their genuine concern that an America will embrace an inferior British style health care system but having the greater fear that the legislation will plunge America into socialism.

But could it be that slurs and demonization tactics are a blinking sign - dangerous road ahead? Is America heeding a warning that the administration has begun to organize all the power of the United States government capable of suppressing dissent if it so chooses?

Two recent events have caused a stir in civil libertarians that seem to have been lost as the country's attention has been riveted on town hall meetings and the health care reform. It received coverage, almost as an aside with no major outcry.

In late July, the Federal Register published notice that the White House may lift its policy barring Federal Web sites from tracking users' online habits. In 2000, under the Clinton administration, it was opined that a ban on Federal Government's use of persistent cookies would protect citizen's privacy and prevent a potential chilling effect on citizens' online visitation of the government's various Web sites. Persistent cookies are used by the private sector to obtain information of a visitor at a web site to assist in the selling of advertisements and tracking potential buyers. One must ask the obvious, "For what purpose would the Federal Government be interested in an American's internet visitation?"

At the same time that the government was announcing the consideration of tracking the surfing habits of Americans, another bothersome invasion into American's cyber privacy was begun. On the White House website, the following was posted, "There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."

The" McCarthy-esque" solicitation for American's to spy on Americans was bold and unapologetic. Note the request was to forward the e-mail. If the White House had requested just the content of the governmentally defined "fishy" concerns, this would have been concerning in and of itself. One must look to overreaching guidance from the White House to citizens; forward e-mails. If the government were intent on suppressing opposition, consider what intelligence this endeavor collects: 1) The email addresses of the Americans that dissent. 2) Identifying information contained within email and signatures. 3) Email address of others who were sent or who forwarded the email. This would be gold mine for an intelligence collection mission.

Is it possible that conversations made in discourse of a current affair will place an American on an enemy list? The 1978 Presidential Records Act mandates the preservation of these emails so the information must be collected and maintained.

As reported at Fox News a recent clash between a Fox News Reporter and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibb revealed that hundreds of Americans had received unrequested e-mails from the White House reference the health care bill. The recipients demanded to know how the White House got their email address. Could the "Report your Neighbor" program have generated a list that resulted in the unsolicited email?

In view of what to some may be evidence that the current administration is attempting to diminish or discredit opposition to the government and its proposed changes and overt acts to identify those who utilize freedom of speech in opposition to their government, the question that must be entertained, "Is the government posturing to act in a manner to delete and remove those who lawfully question?"

July 2, 2008 in Colorado Springs, candidate Barack Obama warned us, "We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Three days after the new administration took office, DOD 1401.10 Civilian Expeditionary Workforce (CEW) Directive was re-written replacing a Presidential Directive that had been unchanged since the first Bush administration in 1992. Comparison of the two is striking in the broadening of the power given the CEW in the new directive. CEW Directive 1992 ensures that the power of the CEW is limited to an overseas theater of operation with the term "overseas" appearing at least 33 times. Reviewing the 2009 version you will not find "overseas" mentioned at all.

The comparison is of changes to the directive is a concern. The 1992 design is clearly designed to free up military personnel in areas where contract CEW perform tasks to include engineers, logistics specialists, weapons inspectors, administrative specialists and on provincial reconstruction teams. The 2009 CEW, however, states; "Civilian Expeditionary Workforce shall be organized, trained, cleared, equipped, and ready to deploy in support of combat operations by the military; contingencies; emergency operations; humanitarian missions; disaster relief; restoration of order; drug interdiction; and stability operations.... Again plaguing questions arise.

Five days after the CEW was enacted, on January 26, 2009, H.R.675 was introduced into Congress by Representative Bob Filner, a California Democrat. This bill would amend title 10, United States Code, to provide police officers, criminal investigators, and game law enforcement officers of the Department of Defense with authority to execute warrants, make arrests, and carry firearms. This bill treats the DOD personnel as civilian employees to prevent conflict with Posse Comitatus. On 3/16/2009 the bill was referred to House subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.

Is there a possibility that the seemingly innocuous "changes" in our military powers portends something a bit more sinister? There is a veritable alphabet soup already of domestic Federal Law Enforcement including but not limited to the FBI, DEA, ATF even IRS and EPA. The delineated jurisdictions have been painstakingly defined by past administrations to avoid any possibility of a national police force.

An administration and a congress in lockstep to assure that their agenda must be enacted for the "good of the people" may have a real potential of addressing their non complying citizens as a road block to progress. What extraordinary powers may be used to assure adoption of "change".

The vitriolic and disrespectful attack on the demonstrators by sponsors and proponents of this bill establishes that the will of the people is of no consequence. The invasion of the administration into private emails and cyber communications show a total ignorance or arrogant disregard of the right to privacy. The rewriting of Presidential Directive 1410.10 and the side stepping of the Posse Comitatus by the introduction of H.R. 675 make a federal police force a possibility. The means to support a motive.

The pattern of facts may be a purely innocent attempt to provide a change to protect the citizens from an administration that is not knowledgeable of constitutional restrictions, in a new administration headed by a constitutional law professor. Yet it again, the patterns of facts may reveal a Machiavellian effort to not only change Washington, but to change the Constitution of the United States. CommentsClose CommentsPermalink

Who's Making Money

We've seen a few "how to save money and energy on home heating this winter" roundups this year, and they mostly boil down to the same thing -- weatherstrip your windows and put some damn socks on. We can't argue with that advice, but isn't anyone thinking outside the box? Assuming you already know to wear layers, draft-proof your house, close off rooms you're not using, and turn on a fan, here are some other chill-banning tips you can try.

Stoke that woodstove, Half-Pint: It's time to put your money where your tweed vest, handlebar mustache, and penny-farthing bicycle are: Turn off the central heating and get yourself a wood-burning stove. Wood pellets are cheaper and more efficient than gas or fuel oil, plus they're renewable. For maximum hipster cred, burn wood you grew yourself in your community rooftop garden. (If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace, go ahead and burn wood there -- we're not dictators. But check out these tips for making your fireplace maximally efficient.)

Buy a Heatball, for art: For passively heated homes and apartments, the radiation from incandescent lightbulbs is an important source of warmth (along with sunlight, body heat, and whatever other heat generators can be trapped inside). But the E.U. has passed a law phasing out traditional lightbulbs in favor of compact fluorescents, thus throwing a cold wet blanket on passive heating -- and leading two German engineers to remarket incandescents as perfectly legal home heating elements called "Heatballs." They're calling this mild protest "action art," and their guiding "theses" include such Denglish gems as "Heatball is the enlightened view of what is essential," "Heatball has become satire through the absurdity of reality," and (my favorite) "Heatball is like Hamlet, who presents a mirror to his cynical stepfather."

Engage in some creative architecture: Maybe for the time being you're stuck in your apartment, huddled around your space heater. (Mother Jones has some tips for making sure that space heater isn't wasting money and energy, by the way.) But a girl can dream, and here's what she can dream about: Building beautiful homes and outbuildings heated by compost, thermal mass, and the good old greenhouse effect. Is one of these going to be the affordable, efficient home of the future? We don't know yet, but we like that folks are thinking. Meanwhile, you can also retrofit an existing house to take advantage of thermal mass and other sources of passive heating (like heatballs!) -- our own Umbra gave some stellar advice on that a few years ago.

Weatherstrip your windows and put some damn socks on: OK, yes. Making your home more air-tight and layering up are actually really good ways to save on energy costs. Fine, Mother Earth News, FINE. But you can still have fun with this one, not to mention engaging in a little recreational upcycling: Try insulating with bubble wrap, or making your own self-heating long johns.

After Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison announced her retirement after she was declared a top target of Tea Party activists, the race for the Republican nomination became even more crowded and contentious. Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams immediately became a Tea Party sensation and last week resigned from the Railroad Commission in order to be a full-time candidate.

The American Spectator today features a glowing profile of Williams, saying that “something about him says ‘Don’t mess with Texas.’”

Williams even won the endorsement of Tea Party leader Sen. Jim DeMint, who’s Senate Conservatives Fund lifted a number of far-right candidates like Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell to victory in GOP primary contests.

But Williams first garnered the support of the Party’s far-right when he unsuccessfully tried to block scholarships for minority students when he worked at the Department of Education under President George H. W. Bush. The New York Times reported in 1990 that Williams caused uproar when he tried to prohibit “colleges and universities that receive Federal funds from offering scholarships designated for minority students.”

Michael L. Williams, the Education Department's Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, said yesterday that "race-exclusive" scholarships, or those based on ethnic origin, were discriminatory and therefore illegal.

College administrators and scholarship fund directors reacted with alarm, saying the decision could reverse decades of efforts to increase the enrollment of members of racial and ethnic minorities who have been historically underrepresented in colleges.

"We were shocked by this decision," said Richard F. Rosser, president of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, which represents 815 institutions. "We have been making enormous efforts to increase the numbers of minority students in our colleges and universities, and this has necessarily required a great deal of financial aid."

Neither Rosser nor anyone else contacted yesterday could say how many institutions, or what percentage of total financial aid to minority students, might be affected by the new enforcement policy. But the practice of setting aside money to attract qualified minority students and make college more affordable for them has been widespread for at least 20 years.

Ultimately, then-Secretary Lamar Alexander (now a Republican Senator from Tennessee) stopped Williams from implementing his policy, including his attempt to block the Fiesta Bowl from setting “aside $100,000 for a fund for minority scholarships.” As Williams happily notes in his campaign’s biography, he succeeded Clarence Thomas in his position at the Education Department.

In a Republican primary in Texas where each candidate has to demonstrate their right-wing credentials, Williams may try to use this case to his advantage.
